How to Research Acupuncture Training Programs

acupuncture_training_programsSo, you want to be an acupuncture practitioner. Where do you start? Some of the first questions you may have are whether now is a good time for you to make a career change, whether the job is really a good fit for you and how to research acupuncture training programs. Doing online and in-person research, and also connecting with a reputable acupuncture college, can help answer questions you have.

Make an Appointment: If you haven’t undergone treatment with a licensed acupuncture practitioner, schedule a session today. Experiencing how acupuncture can improve your own health and wellness is one of the best ways to figure out whether it makes a good career choice. Ideally, the acupuncture training programs you’re considering have clinics — that’s an excellent avenue to evaluate a school!

Read and Reach Out: Read about acupuncture education and specific training programs at reputable sites online, such as the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Identify programs that interest you and talk to graduates in the field about how well the school prepared them for their careers. Your local library may also have resources to help you learn about acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, as well as information on program options.

Explore Schools: Make an appointment with the admissions department at accredited schools you’re considering to learn more about the training programs, graduation requirements and day-to-day lives of students. The staff of each institution should be able to connect you with educators and students who can talk about their experiences in the programs. Ask if you can observe a class. Decide whether any of the options sound like the perfect fit for you.

To try an acupuncture session at Acupuncture & Massage College’s Community Clinic, which offers acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and massage therapy for the treatment of a wide range of health conditions, call (305) 595-9500. If you’d like to find out more about admissions and tour the college, ask for Admissions Director Joe Calareso.
