Acupuncture & Massage College’s Chinese New Year celebration includes free seminars, free mini-massages, horoscope readings, free lunch, and a giveaway raffle! The Chinese New Year event will be held on Saturday, January 31, 10 am to 3pm on AMC’s campus, located at 10506 N. Kendall Drive, Miami. Everyone is cordially invited to attend!

The Chinese New Year event will include a performance of sitar music by Miami-based musician Ryan Browne, which will be followed by Chinese dancers performing a New Year celebration dance.
Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Starting on New Year’s Day, on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar, it consists of a 15-day period of celebrations, concluding with the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the month.

According to Chinese astrology, 2009 is the Year of the Ox. Beginning January 26, Chinese New Year is a time of renewal which honors ancestors and is celebrated with a banquet symbolizing prosperity in the New Year.

Foods traditionally associated with the Lunar New Year Festival include: Niangao cake, fagao (prosperity cake), dumplings, yusheng (a salad of raw fish and vegetables), mandarin oranges (a symbol of good fortune and wealth), whole steamed fish (a symbol of good fortune and long life), and uncut noodles (symbolizes longevity). Many of the dishes made at this time are regarded as symbols of good luck.

AMC’s Chinese New Year celebration, which also celebrates Acupuncture & Massage College’s 25 anniversary, includes free seminars on Chinese herbs for women’s health and acupuncture for ailments.
