Mission
The mission of the Acupuncture & Massage College (AMC) is to provide
the community of South Florida with a school of Natural Healing which
includes programs in Oriental Medicine and Massage Therapy thus preserving
the knowledge of these ancient health sciences. AMC is committed to
maintaining high standards of education and providing a well-balanced
and relevant curriculum in its programs of study. Students of Oriental
Medicine are prepared to become licensed Primary Health-care Providers.
Massage Therapy students are prepared to become licensed Massage Therapists.
Both Oriental Medicine Practitioners and Massage Therapists can offer
quality health-care for the prevention and treatment of dis-ease. To
help ensure that licensed health-care professionals can advance their
knowledge and skills, AMC offers postgraduate continuing education programs.
AMC also strives to improve the quality of health-care in our community
by providing a low cost Community Intern Clinic. In addition, seminars
are provided to educate the community regarding the benefits of Oriental
Medicine and Massage Therapy. The primary objective of the Acupuncture
& Massage College’s Master of Oriental Medicine Degree and
Master’s Level programs is to train competent practitioners in
the art, science, and practice of Oriental Medicine. To accomplish this,
students will meet the following educational objectives:
1. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in the theories
and philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
2. Students will be able to communicate with western medical practitioners and will know when to make appropriate referrals.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate competent diagnostic judgment and assess appropriate treatment plans in the care of patients.
4. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in the following clinical skills: Physical Assessment, Oriental Bodywork, and Acupuncture Techniques.
5. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in the theories of Chinese Herbal Medicine and will be able to determine appropriate herbal therapy recommendations.
6. Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate professional conduct in their relationship with patients.
7. Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of practical business strategies.
8. Students will be able to pass their National and State Licensing Exams.
9. Students will be prepared to become entry level Oriental Medicine Practitioners.
The primary objective of the Acupuncture & Massage
College’s Massage Therapy program is to train competent practitioners
in the art, science, and practice of massage therapy. To accomplish this,
students will meet the following educational objectives:
1. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in
the theories and philosophy of Oriental Massage, Medical Massage, Swedish
Massage and Hydrotherapy.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in the following hands-on skills: Shiatsu, Medical Massage, and Swedish Massage.
4. Students will be able to assess contraindications to massage.
5. Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate professional conduct in their relationship with patients.
6. Students will be able to demonstrate competency in Florida Law as it pertains to Massage Therapy.
7. Students will be able to pass their National and State Licensing Exams.
8. Students will be prepared to become entry level Massage Therapists with a specialty in Oriental Bodywork.
