MASSAGE JOBS
|
|
| Get a job in massage therapy or begin
your own private practice. Types of massage therapy jobs vary by setting.
Spa massage therapy focuses on relaxation treatments. These job opportunities
can be found not only in spas but also on cruise ships, hotels, salons,
and resorts. Corporate massage therapy offers job opportunities onsite
at various businesses as well as at events and conventions. Medical massage therapy jobs are found in various medical settings, from physical therapy practices to doctor’s and chiropractor’s offices to clinics and hospitals. Sports massage therapy job opportunities are growing and this type of massage therapy is practiced in sports medicine clinics, health clubs, sports franchises, and colleges. Massage therapists can also create a job opening in a corporation by beginning an employee massage therapy program. Pepsi, United Airlines, AT & T, and Reebok are some of the corporations who have created employee massage programs. |

The work setting depends on the individual massage
therapist. You may try different locations before you find the one most
suitable for you. As a massage therapist you can also choose your geographic
preference—if you prefer an urban setting you can work in a metropolis
such as New York or San Francisco. Or you may choose to spend your winter
in sunny locales such as Arizona or Florida. Massage therapy jobs also offer flexibility to make your own schedule. Massage therapists are in increasingly high demand in several industries. Many people visit massage therapists not only for relaxation and stress management, but also those with disabling conditions and people suffering from accident injuries. |
| The number of individuals who are getting massages has nearly tripled over the last decade and as a result the growing demand for massage therapists has led to the spa industry becoming one of the primary job fields. The rise of spa-related personal services such as massage are leading the field in terms of employment opportunities. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that massage therapy will grow at twice the speed of other jobs. Massage therapists can also choose how they prefer to be employed—as independent contractors, salaried or commissioned employees or self-employed practitioners. Massage therapy jobs also provide therapists opportunities to express positive values about well-being and caring towards their clients. The massage therapy field is undergoing rapid change due to the public’s increased interest in forms of holistic health. These changes have brought about increased job specialization opportunities for massage therapists, who may now specialize in the type of clientele they choose, such as athletes, office workers, the elderly, or performance artists. |
