Shiatsu massage is a form of Oriental massage therapy, shiatsu is based on Japanese massage therapy traditions and integrates Chinese medicine theory and practice with Western physiology and anatomy.
Shiatsu combines assisted-stretching techniques and acupressure to restore qi, or energy balance, in the body. The shiatsu practitioner applies pressure to specific points to promote energy distribution throughout the body and to correct disharmonies in the energetic components of the body.
Shiatsu benefits:
• Improves posture.
• Reduces acute and chronic neck and back pain.
• Stimulates the circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal systems.
• Reduces blood pressure and heart rate.
Shiatsu therapy treats the root cause of disorders and conditions while enhancing overall health. Therapy often results in increased range of motion and improved coordination. Utilized as either a primary therapy or complementary therapy, shiatsu restores the nervous and circulatory systems, improves muscle elasticity and bone structure and contributes to mind and body wellness.

After suffering years of lower back pain, I get substantial relief through shiatsu massage, which helps unblock certain meridian points associated with the pain.
Shiatsu massage is awesome. I’ve used for a number of musculoskeletal issues, including some lower back pain, and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Very informative. You are completely right that Shiatsu Massages are a great alternative to modern medicine. The only care a patient needs to keep in mind, like with any other treatment, is to work with a therapist that already has experience with Shiatsu.
Great writeup.

Sounds good, I really want one of these.
Shaitsu is based on the traditional massages brought to Japan from China around a 1000 years ago, but the actual term is less than 100 years old to my knowledge.

Shiatsu massage is very relaxing, but these days you don’t have to go to a masseur to get your Shiatsu massage.
There are Shiatsu massage chairs which you can buy, put them in your living room and enjoy a nice massage while watching the TV.
Probably not so effective as an actual Japanese massage, but I just wanted to say… the ancient medicine is quickly replaced by the new technology.
