Consuming fewer sugar-sweetened beverages may reduce blood pressure, according to a new study. Sugar-sweetened beverages, one of the most common sources of excess sugar in the diet, have been previously linked to increased risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome.
“Our findings suggest that reducing sugar-sweetened beverages and sugar consumption may be an important dietary strategy to lower blood pressure and further reduce other blood pressure-related diseases,” says lead author Liwei Chen, M.D., assistant professor at Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Public Health.
“Reductions in blood pressure would be anticipated by reducing sugar-sweetened beverages consumption by an average of two servings per day,” says Chen. Using data on 810 adults with prehypertension and stage I hypertension, researchers concluded that reducing intake of sodas lowered blood pressure significantly.
American adults consume an average of 2.3 servings (28 ounces) of sugar-sweetened beverages per day, such as drinks sweetened with sugar or high-fructose corn syrup, regular soft drinks, fruit drinks, and lemonade.
The findings have relevant public health implications, as even minor reductions in blood pressure can have significant health benefits on a population level. The study appears in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.

I have 2 questions:
1. can high blood pressure be treated with acupuncture effectively?
2. I think that beverages such as sodas and other drinks today contain more then just sugar that is not healthy for you, all these chemicals and preserving materials can’t be good for the human body, the main question is how strong are you to resist all these delicious flavors
good tips for reducing Blood Pressure
thank you for sharing
Tq for the info dude
Ooops, will have to start cutting back!
I agree with your concept about the sugary drinks. The sugars can cause considerable damage to our bodies as well as access fats and uric acid. After some digging I found that there has been research showing that the diet and the things we are putting into our bodies has is the root cause of Multiple Sclerosis. People’s MS has been reversed through nutrition, physical exercise program and similar natural things.
So not only does it affect Blood Pressure but it can have a much more encompassing affect on our complete bodily health. Just thought it was interesting…
yeah thanks mate for the great article. hope people my cut on their daily intake of sugars in various form and start of thinking alternative sources of galactose.
I know this is true for a fact. I’ve recently dropped about 40lbs of body fat and reduced my cholesterol and blood pressure at the same time. I was drinking on average a 6-pack of sodas each day. I feel 100% better now and I’m looking younger as a bonus. Who knew that sugar can give you wrinkles. Go figure.
Those ear seeds sure come in handy for those soda cravings.
People are talking about how healthy fruit is when it comes to losing weight but is it really? All fruits contain fruit-sugar. It’s sugar in a very pure form, just because the word “fruit” is in front of it doesn’t make it healthy.
soda is a evil! don’t touch this anytime!
i agree with you.
health is very important for our.
Hi, thank you for the information of the blood sugar disease, particularly the issue that triggered your very enlightening article contains information. I say sugar should be avoided as much as necessary.
Since cutting sugary sodas out of my diet I have much more energy and just feel better about myself in general. I think that an extra tax on sugary sodas would really help our nations health and economy.
OK, the dangers of sugar are pretty clear – but here’s my question: what about the diet sodas, the nutrasweets, the splendid packets? Do they function the same as sugar with respect to long term diseases, or are they better or worse?
I have met a few people that by choice has avoided sugars in any form for many years. The results you can see – right there. Almost all were in good shape without major health complications.
My uncle has massively increased his health (kept type 2 diabetes under control, lost weight, more energy, lower blood pressure) by cutting sugar and sweetened drinks out of his diet. I think it’s why he is still alive! That’s amazing that there may be a link between diet and MS, and that they might be able to reverse their symptoms.
Thanks for the info and comment. I’m very interested to learn more about how massage and acupuncture play into the picture of overall health, along with exercise and proper diet.

I agree so, The sugars can cause considerable damage to our bodies as well as access fats and uric acid.
This is interesting. I do know that sugar is the culprit that causes many health problems but I wasn’t aware that it can affect the blood pressure as well. I suppose this finding is indeed helpful for people suffering from hypertension as it can help control their blood pressure better by restricting their sugar intake.
I would totally ban sodas and other types of processed food. It’s not food in fact, it’s poison for our bodies.
Hey great post here,
I am just about to hit a fitness regeime using a system called P90X, I am cutting out all sugar as I want to get ripped. I have spent the last 30 years of abusing my body. I love the points in your post.
cheers
zach
I totally agree that sugar is harmful, even more, I can identify here the set of other disabilities, which may lead to excessive use of sugar consumption. However… After a little tour on the Internet and reading of articles on healthy and non-healthy foods, seems that healthy foods non-existent. If you seems to talk about healthy food such as fruits and vegetables, it has long since they are not as healthy because they are fertilized with chemicals to those that do not want to know, is genetically modified and treated with long-term storage in a way that is a very dangerous level. I am not talking about all the food (can you imagine what we eat chicken, if chicken grow within two weeks?). So I think that both the sugar and other food products if used in moderation, then they will not bring any damage to your body and will not jeopardize our health.
It seems to me that there is a reason that drinking soda first thing in the morning makes you feel sick. It’s a strange brown color and completely unnatural. If you ever read the ingredients on the side of the can you realize that the ingredients need ingredients. It’s just such a foreign product to put into your body. How could it not have negative side effects.
I couldn’t agree more! The empty calories from soft drinks are a disaster for the future of our kids.
